KEENE - There was a better reason than most for an arraignment hearing not taking place as scheduled Wednesday in Keene District Court.
The suspected assailant is deceased.
County Attorney Peter Heed (pictured above) confirmed that David Crockett, 54, of Westmoreland, suffered a fatal medical crisis last week. Crockett was free on bail, in the machete knife attack on a neighbor, William Savard, last month. Savard continues to recover from wounds he suffered in that assault.
Heed declared the case closed, as far as his office in concerned. he says there is no suspicion that Crockett's death was anything but a natural medical crisis. Savard told the Keene Sentinel rumors of more than natural causes were swirling around Westmoreland, before Heed addressed the situation.
